HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA – May 10, 2013, If you have a real family emergency and need to urgently call Halifax Police or Fire Departments, the last thing you want to hear is a busy signal. But what if that lifeline is tied up by someone wanting police to remove a squirrel from their basement; or demanding the fire department get a raccoon family out of their attic? The workload on first responder services is crushing, especially as towns and cities look to reduce costs. Now a Halifax company is expanding to offer fast, humane wildlife removal, freeing municipal and natural resource services to focus on more important public safety priorities.
Opening the Nova Scotia Skedaddle operation to deal humanely with intrusive wildlife has been a goal of Andrew Wheelock and his partner Derek Martin, who says the time and location are right for this new service.
“The opening of Skedaddle Halifax comes at the spring peak of animal intrusions. This is the time of year when wildlife that have been hunkering down in your attic all winter start birthing. The spring is the best time to assess and remove invading animals, clear and clean the damage, and most importantly to make sure they don’t come back”.
Andrew has been a home services professional in Halifax since 1995, first with Weed Man, Truly Nolen Pest Control and now Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control. “We fill a very real void when it comes to nuisance wildlife”, says Andrew.
“There are no government departments in Nova Scotia that can respond to this type of homeowner problem. Skedaddle is the only private company that not only humanely clears and cleans wildlife intrusions, but more importantly, we protect your home by preventing animals returning. We guarantee it.”
Bill Dowd is President and CEO of Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control. The company was founded in 1989 and been a front-runner in dealing with pesky, four-legged invaders. Bill has heard the plight of caring homeowners a thousand times “It is a real emotional dilemma to have a mother raccoon and her cute babies in your attic”, says Dowd.
“Raccoons can cause an enormous amount of damage to a home. They not only destroy property and possessions but pose a serious health risk to your family with ticks, fleas and other ectoparasites. Wildlife can pass even more serious diseases to your family pets, such as ringworm, distemper, and rabies; so it’s very important to have a professional identify and remove the animals safely and humanely.”
Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control is now open for business and will be reaching out across the Halifax Regional Municipality, Truro, New Glasgow, Kentville and Bridgewater to offer their services.
