Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control was called out to in Burlington, Ontario to respond to a snake call.
The company described the snake as 2 feet long and arriving in a crate from India. The call exited us, as we hoped it would turn out to be a sawscaled viper (which are responsible for the most deaths per year compared to all other snakes). They are most frequently found in shipping containers and thrive in urban areas.
However, once on site we found the box open and the snake dead inside. We learned it was found on the floor of the warehouse, in the vicinity of a crate from India. Measuring about 10-inches, it turned out to be a native, Northern Brown snake–a harmless worm eater but a fascinating species of snake none-the-less.
