When you find an animal in your home, your immediate concern is probably to have the pest removed as soon as possible. Yet, as important as it is to have wildlife removed carefully, it is equally important for our animal control technicians in Ajax to clean and decontaminate the affected area. Otherwise, the disease-causing viruses and parasites that the animal may have left behind will be left to contaminate your house.
What We Do
When Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control specialists respond to a report of pests in your home, we work with you to create a four-step plan:
- Humanely remove the pests without spreading any contamination
- Clear away all contaminated materials
- Repair damages to your home or business
- Prevent more animals from entering
Remove Wildlife
The methods used to remove wildlife from a home matter. We always assume wild animals have serious infectious diseases because, in the event they do, we want to be completely prepared. With that presumption, we do not want to carry an infected animal through the living spaces in your house. If the creature is in your attic, we remove it through a roof opening into your attic rather than bringing it into the main living areas of your home. If the animal is already in your living space, we remove it through the nearest door as quickly and cleanly as possible. We carry this high level of caution over to our equipment. We always keep our tools clean and sanitized, but we do our best to only bring necessary items into your house, in the event, there are unseen microbes left on our gear.
Clear Contamination
Our job is not over after the furry invaders are gone. The next concern relates to the mess that they have left behind. Where there have been wild animals living, there will likely be a mess of dried urine and saliva, excrement, fur and debris that they have dragged in.
We clear away nests and debris that any unwanted critters left behind. When cleaning up an attic infestation, we also remove the contaminated insulation. Depending on how many animals were living in your attic, and how long they had been living up there, the amount of contaminated insulation may range from very little to almost all of it. As when we removed the wildlife itself, we take all the debris and materials out through the opening in your attic rather than dragging the material through your home. Once everything left in the area is visibly clean, we spray the area with a safe bacterial digester to take care of any contaminants we cannot see. We do not allow any remnant of the wildlife’s microbes to remain in your home.
Repair Damage
Depending on where your wildlife visitors were living and how long they were there before you found them, repairs may be as simple as replacing a little insulation and sealing the entry hole. For this, we use blown cellulose insulation instead of fiberglass sheets because of its higher quality. It repels pests and mildew and is a good fire retardant. However, there may also be damage to some of the structural parts of your home, including drywall, ducts and wiring. We take our time to fully evaluate the extent of the damage so that we can fix any underlying problems. That way, you are not left with any unhappy surprises down the road.
Prevent Future Pests
After everything in your home is as good as new, we want to help you minimize the risk of any wildlife invasions happening again. Wild critters are frustratingly creative at finding ways inside your house despite everyone’s best efforts, but there are steps that you can take to encourage them to find shelter elsewhere. Our customized preventative methods have proven to deter all sizes of critters, from larger raccoons to tiny mice. Skedaddle’s 30 years of experience shows when it comes to the knowledge and skills of our professionally trained technicians.
