LOCAL WILDLIFE IN PETERBOROUGH

Peterborough is home to a thriving wildlife population that attracts many year-round cottage-goers, bird watchers and conservationists. With over 300 different species of birds in the area, Peterborough County works closely with the Kawartha Lakes region to establish by-laws and conservation programs aimed at building a bird-friendly city. Raccoons, skunks, bats and squirrels are also amongst the wide variety of urban wildlife found in Peterborough. With several lakes and green space throughout Peterborough County, wildlife have ample resources to thrive within our community.

With an abundance of natural spaces surrounding Peterborough, the city may seem like an unlikely place for wildlife to live comfortably. However, urban wildlife adapts quickly, and as the city expands, more urban animals are forced to coexist in human settings. “The conservation efforts made by Peterborough residents to protect local wildlife makes our team proud to offer property owners a humane alternative to traditional wildlife control and removal services.” says Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control General Manager, Tisha Hicks.

Wildlife often adapt to urban environments in ways that bring them too close for our comfort. From living in chimneys, to gaining entry into our attics, the longer wildlife lives inside a home the more damage they will cause. As a popular cottage and summer vacation spot, many properties across Peterborough, including homes and summer cottages, may be left vacant for long periods of time. Wildlife-proofing your home is a great insurance policy against wildlife entry and damage that could go unnoticed for extended periods. Failing to protect your home or cottage from wildlife could lead to unexpected damage that can be costly to repair.

OUR PARTNERSHIPS IN THE COMMUNITY

Raccoons, squirrels, bats, skunks, mice and rats have adapted to urban settings in part by making their den sites inside our homes and cottages. Attics, chimneys, and sheds are all common den sites that wildlife use. Once inside they can cause severe property damage, create fire hazards, and spread harmful contaminants.

The last thing cottage owners want to deal with when they arrive for their relaxing getaway, is a wildlife or pest infestation and the mess that comes with it. Whether you own a home or a cottage, Skedaddle technicians can handle the removal and clean-up of any wildlife problem. We will provide you with a customized plan to fully protect all of the vulnerable areas of your property where wildlife may enter and install long-lasting exclusion barriers. Our team is able to make regular checkups on your cottage through the year, so while you are away, we can ensure it stays wildlife free for your next visit.

Skedaddle is the industry leader in humane wildlife removal, control and exclusion services. Our trained technicians have the knowledge and experience to effectively and permanently resolve any wildlife conflict. Skedaddle does not trap, kill or harm any wildlife animal, instead we offer a fully customized service to help protect your home from nuisance animals.

WHY CHOOSE HUMANE WILDLIFE CONTROL

As many cottage-goers head home for the cold winter months, they leave their properties susceptible to wildlife institutions while they’re away. Unfortunately, this can mean an infestation can go unnoticed for weeks or even months. The longer wildlife are present, the more damage they can do to building materials like insulation, electrical and duct work. Returning to unwanted guests and thousands of dollars in damage is not an ideal way to enjoy an escape from the city. This can be particularly stressful for those who rent their cottages and not only face costly damage, but thousands in lost rental revenue.

We understand that your property needs year round protection, which is why preventing wildlife problems is the best way to ensure peace of mind while you’re away. We start by wildlife-proofing your property from top to bottom, ensuring that every potential point of wildlife entry is sealed to keep them out. We are proud to offer each of our customers a lifetime guarantee on our workmanship and materials.

With over three decades of experience, Skedaddle’s hands-on techniques have been designed to ensure that wildlife are removed humanely, including during the spring and summer birthing season when babies arrive. We protect our client’s homes and investments with high-quality materials combined with expert installation methods that deter wildlife from your property to keep your home or cottage wildlife-free for good.

TIPS FOR PROPERTY OWNERS IN PETERBOROUGH

Centered between Lake Ontario and a chain of 14 other lakes, Peterborough is surrounded by water. This environment is perfect for bat, raccoon, squirrel, skunk, mice and rat populations to thrive. Year-round your home or cottage is under pressure from wildlife intrusion. Although different species are active at different times of the year, each can cause a significant amount of damage in a short amount of time. Fortunately, there are preventive measures you can take to protect your property.

During the summer months, cottage goers are busy swimming in the beautiful Kawartha lakes and exploring the many different hiking trails in the area. Garbage, barbeques and unattended summer snacks attract wildlife to properties. It is crucial for cottage and home owners to be vigilant and properly secure any garbage, clean their barbecue and even store patio furniture when not in use. These simple actions can only keep wildlife out of your attic when combined with a wildlife-proofing strategy, which can be a tedious and dangerous task. Our technicians come equipped with the knowledge and experience needed to assess wildlife damage or vulnerability, and ensure every potential entry point is sealed.

As winter arrives, many cottage and home owners leave their properties unoccupied. Even if your cottage has been winterized, there is always a possibility that wildlife will chew, claw or tear their way inside. Our wildlife-proofing techniques are designed to protect every part of your property against winter and summer elements. Since you may not always be close to make check-ups, our technicians can perform regular inspections to your property and ensure it is protected while you’re away. Once summer arrives, you will return to a relaxing, wildlife-free destination.
